Project: Nature in Linacre

We will undertake a community based environmental appraisal of Linacre ward, Bootle. Growing together, through increased knowledge, personal skills & confidence, to understand the relationship the community has with the natural environment and deliver a collaborative, local and comprehensive: ‘natural capital’ benefits assessment, needs/opportunity mapping exercise for Linacre Ward, and action plan. Inspired by the Nature of Hulme, a pilot application of Defra’s Local Action Project in Manchester, which investigated how people interact with nature and the benefits natural spaces bring to people’s lives, we will work with residents in Linacre to co- create their version: Nature in Linacre, reflecting their perspectives of existing natural capital in the area and informing their action plan for what more can be done. Participatory engagement methods will amplify voices and strengthen community identity. Together we will draw on history and map the existing environmental landscape, reflecting on this data, residents will shape the plan for environmental improvements for a sustainable future. We will invite VCS partners to organise and host community meetings to ensure the invitation to participate is wide reaching and representation is inclusive.
