Queen's Achieves Seventh Consecutive Green Flag Award

Queen’s University Belfast has achieved its seventh successive Green Flag Award at the NI Green Flag Awards 2025-26, reinforcing its position as having one of the UK’s top green spaces, following a full review and audit of the site.

Pictured at the awards is Rachel Vaughan, Sustainability Programme Officer, Queen's University Belfast with Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Minister Andrew Muir.

Managed by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, and running internationally in 18 countries, the Green Flag Awards set the benchmark national standard for and recognise excellence in the management of our public spaces. Winners are judged on the overall quality of green space and the work that goes into keeping grounds in pristine condition.

This year’s NI Green Flag Awards were held in the Bangor Walled Garden on Wednesday 13 August.

Ian Duddy, Director of Estates at Queen’s, commented:

“We’re thrilled that Queen’s has once again met the high standards of the Green Flag Awards.

“To be recognised for seven consecutive years highlights the dedication and teamwork of our staff and community partners in preserving green spaces and built heritage for our staff, students and the wider public, it’s incredibly rewarding to see our efforts consistently acknowledged at a national level.”

Queen’s received positive feedback from the Green Flag Awards auditors; in particular, they mentioned the inclusivity and welcoming nature of the University’s main site and highlighted the well-maintained buildings and surrounding landscapes on campus.
